Nate Miller’s “The Juicer”

September 10th, 2009

It’s been a little while and I wanted to send out an update with what Rhodes Amplification is up to.  We received another order for a custom amp from Lafayette’s own Nate Miller!  He’s one of the guitar players in the original local band Springload and the Pearl Jam tribute band Tremor Christ.

His amp is going to be quite a bit different than the Dishaster and Deeviant models.  It’s 50W powered by a pair of KT66 tubes.  It features a crystal clean Channel 1, a crunchy Channel 2, and Channel 3 allows you to mix the tones of Channel 1 & 2!  Channel 3 is the most unique feature in this amp — you end up with an additional gain control for Channel 1 & 2 and in addition two more volume controls.  This allows you to make Channel 3 anything from a hybrid clean with a little dirty in the background to a seering lead tone with a unique clean texture shining through.

It’s another rack mount beast with a whopping 18 knobs on the front panel.  There’s a completely redesigned all-tube effects loop with rear mounted send and return level controls.  Channel switching can be controlled by front panel switches, an external contact-closure interface, or via MIDI.  Dual footswitchable master volumes allow for solo boosts or volume cuts.

This amp will also feature the first Rhodes Amplification MIDI interface and companion foot controller.  There are a ton of new features going into this great new amp.  You can expect to see a lot of interesting developments in future Rhodes amps!

Sound Sample CD 1 Recorded!

August 18th, 2009

Many thanks to Chris June and Brian Boszor for providing the jams on the first Rhodes Amplification sample CD!  They came over for a night of rocking some of their favorite riffs while I did my best to capture the character of the amp for you all to hear.

It’s not an easy thing to do — make it sound as good on the recording as it does in person.  I did my best and here’s the result…  Later I may go back for a bit of tweeking on the mastering side of things.  After listening to the clips on a few different systems they sound a little muffled.  But hey, you get the idea!  You can definitely hear the amp’s unique tones and raw power.

O/Netics Transformers in our Online Store!

July 17th, 2009

We added the entire line of O/Netics Signature Series transformers to our online store.  You’ll find a huge number of options for various output transformers — everything from the extrememly tight “Hi-Def” perfect for all the palm muting metal you can handle, to the Blues for singing leads reminiscent of some of your old favorite vintage tones. The Retro-M and Retro-F are very cool Marshall and Fender style output transformers great for new builds  or even upgrades to those no-longer-so-good production trannies that are so common these days…  Standard output powers availalable in 15W, 30W, 50W, and 100W in most transformers.  Custom ratings available upon request!

Also offered are some great power transformers (for both tube and solid state rectifiers, with 12V switching supply taps!) and chokes. Take a look around and feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Chris June’s “Dishaster 4790″ Delivered

July 10th, 2009

Chris came over to do some final tweeks with me this past Monday. After a bit more work I buttoned it up and to his excitement he was able to take it home that night!

He’s been enjoying it for a few days now and it’s safe to say he’s happy.  The amplifier will be debuted during the Dancing in the Streets festival in downtown Lafayette on July 18th.  I’ll be there anxiously listening as Chris’ band Chemcoma opens for Amanda Overmyer.

New Signature Guitar Amplifiers

May 21st, 2009

Development has begun for the new “Dishaster” and “Deeviant 4790″ all-tube rackmount guitar amplifiers designed in partnership with Chris June and Cody Hughes of the hard rock band Chemcoma (http://www.myspace.com/chemcoma). The amps are capable of a huge range of sounds from only two channels and a 50W power section. The Dishaster features 6L6 power tubes while the Deeviant 4790 utilizes EL34s. Both amps exclusively use hand made O’Netics transformers.

Stayed tuned for updates and pictures documenting the development process!
